Since 1966, our parish has brought people together to worship Jesus Christ, grow in faith, and care for one another.

Whether you have been part of our community for years or are walking through our doors for the first time, we are glad you are here.

BulletinService TimesPlan Your Visit

1. Get to Know Our Church

We are a Ukrainian Catholic parish within the Eparchy of Saskatoon. Our faith is Catholic, and our worship follows the Byzantine tradition, shaped by the Christian heritage of Kyiv.

<details class="wp-block-details is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
Read more

The Catholic Church includes different Churches with their own liturgical and spiritual traditions. The Ukrainian Catholic Church is an Eastern Catholic Church in full communion with the Pope.

Our tradition finds expression in the Divine Liturgy, sacred icons, sung prayer, and the celebrations of the Church year. “Ukrainian” describes the heritage of our Church; you do not need to be Ukrainian or speak Ukrainian to worship with us.
</details>

2. Join Us for Worship

Our usual Sunday celebration begins with the Rosary at 9:10 a.m., followed by the Divine Liturgy at 9:30 a.m. Please check the current bulletin for changes, feast days, and weekday services.

<details class="wp-block-details is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
Read more

Our regular Sunday Divine Liturgy is bilingual, with English and Ukrainian used in worship. An additional Ukrainian-language Divine Liturgy is normally celebrated on the first Sunday of each month at 11:30 a.m.

The Divine Liturgy is our celebration of the Eucharist. Much of the service is sung, with the congregation joining in the responses. Bilingual service books and hymn books help you follow along. The weekly bulletin includes readings, changing prayers, and announcements.

You are welcome to join in as you feel comfortable and become familiar with the service over time.
</details>

3. Visiting for the First Time

On Sundays, our greeters and ushers welcome you at the entrance. They can give you a bulletin, help you find the service books, and show you where to sit.

<details class="wp-block-details is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
Read more

Please let them know if this is your first visit. You do not need to know every prayer or custom before coming.

If you have questions about the service or parish life, ask a greeter or introduce yourself to our priest after the Divine Liturgy. For a longer conversation, contact the parish office to arrange a suitable time.
</details>

4. Children Are Welcome

Families with children are welcome in our church. A Parents’ Room upstairs is also available when you need a quieter space while staying connected to the service.

<details class="wp-block-details is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
Read more

The room has a mirrored viewing window overlooking the church and choir, offering privacy while allowing you to see the service. A speaker carries the sound of the Liturgy into the room.

There is a sofa and a place to change your baby. Please ask a greeter or usher to show you the way.
</details>

5. Holy Communion & Blessings

In our Byzantine tradition, Holy Communion is administered with a liturgical spoon, directly into the mouth. It is not received in the hand.

<details class="wp-block-details is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
Read more

Catholics who are properly prepared may receive Holy Communion. If you are unsure about receiving or unfamiliar with the manner of reception, please speak with the priest before the service.

If you approach for a blessing instead of Holy Communion, clearly say “A blessing, please” before the priest offers Communion.

You are welcome to remain in your place and pray if you are not receiving.
</details>

6. Stay for Coffee & Conversation

After Sunday Divine Liturgy, you are invited to join us for coffee and fellowship in the parish hall, adjoining the church in the same building.

<details class="wp-block-details is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
Read more

This is an opportunity to meet people, ask questions, and get to know the parish beyond the service.

Throughout the year, parish gatherings may also include lunches, brunches, suppers, and special celebrations. Check the bulletin for upcoming events and opportunities to help.
</details>

7. Grow in Faith

Our parish life includes children’s catechism, preparation for the Holy Mysteries, and opportunities for youth and adults to deepen their faith.

<details class="wp-block-details is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
Read more

Children’s catechism supports families in helping their children know Christ and take part in the life of the Church. Preparation for First Solemn Holy Communion and Confession is part of this ministry.

Youth activities and adult faith formation provide further opportunities to learn, ask questions, and build friendships. Contact the parish office or consult the bulletin for current programmes and registration details.
</details>

8. Share Your Gifts

Our parish grows through the generosity of people who sing, welcome visitors, teach, prepare meals, organise activities, and offer practical help.

<details class="wp-block-details is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
Read more

The parish choir, Ukrainian Catholic Brotherhood of Canada (UCBC), Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League of Canada (UCWLC), and Knights of Columbus are among the ways people contribute to our shared life.

Whether you can help regularly or occasionally, we welcome your interest. Speak with the parish office to learn where your time and talents could make a difference.
</details>

9. Become a Parish Member

If you would like to make St. Athanasius your parish home, contact the office for a registration form. You can obtain a form from the office or request one to be sent electronically.

<details class="wp-block-details is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
Read more

After you return your completed form, the parish will review your information and confirm your registration. If clarification is needed, such as details concerning Baptism or Marriage, we will contact you directly.

Registration helps us stay in touch and support your participation in parish life. You are welcome to attend worship and meet the community before registering.
</details>

Supporting the Parish

Voluntary donations support our worship, ministries, buildings, and care for others. Registered parishioners receive numbered offering envelopes.

<details class="wp-block-details is-layout-flow wp-block-details-is-layout-flow">
Read more about giving

You may place cash or a cheque in your offering envelope and put it in the collection basket during a service, or bring it to the parish office.

Your envelope number helps the parish record your donations confidentially. Annual donation receipts are issued for recorded contributions.

Visitor envelopes are available at the entrance. Please include the requested contact information if you would like a receipt.

E-transfer and pre-authorised giving are also available. Contact the office or visit the Donations page for instructions.
</details>

10. Our Wider Parish Family

Our priest also serves communities in the Moose Jaw Pastoral District.
